Learn to read poker equity by guessing it, ten hands a day

Equity is how often your hand wins if the rest of the deck runs out. Guessing it well is what separates a decision from a hunch — and it is a skill you can practise like any other.

How it works
1

Ten spots a day

Everyone gets the same challenge, so your score means something next to your friends’.
2

Guess, then see the truth

Read the board, commit to a number, and get the exact equity — computed, not estimated.
3

Find out where you leak

The Lab breaks your error down by street and hand type, and shows every spot again.
What equity is, and why guessing it is the skill
Every time you face a bet, the question underneath is the same one: how often does this hand win from here? That number is your equity, and it decides whether a call is profitable long before any read on your opponent does. Solvers compute it exactly. At a table you have seconds and no solver, so what you actually need is a fast, close estimate — the ability to look at a board and know that you are around 35% rather than around 55%.
That estimate is trainable, and it improves the way anything improves: by guessing, being told the answer, and finding out where you are consistently wrong. This trainer shows you a hand, asks for the number, and scores how close you got. Ten spots a day, identical for everybody, so a score means something next to somebody else’s. Afterwards it breaks your error down by street and hand type, which is where the leaks turn out to be — most players are far better on the river than the flop, and had no idea by how much.
Questions

What is poker equity?

Your share of the pot if the hand were dealt to the end from where it stands now, expressed as a percentage. A hand with 40% equity wins four times in ten against the range it is facing — which is what tells you whether the price you are being offered is worth paying.

Is it free?

Yes, entirely. No adverts, no subscription, no paid tier and nothing to buy. You can play without an account at all; signing in only adds a streak, a history and leaderboards among people you choose.

Is this gambling?

No. There is nothing to deposit, stake, win or withdraw, no prizes, and the points have no cash value and cannot be transferred. It is a study tool for a game of skill and chance, not a place to play one.

How accurate are the numbers?

Where the remaining run-outs can be counted, every one is counted and the answer is exact. Where they cannot, the app runs a seeded simulation of 120,000 hands — seeded from the spot itself, so everybody is scored against the same number rather than their own device’s dice.
